In-N-Out Burger, a popular fast-food chain on the West Coast, has made its Idaho debut, drawing eager crowds who were keen to be among the first to experience it.
As early as 3 a.m. on December 12, 2023, a line of nearly a dozen people had formed outside the brand-new Meridian establishment. The anticipation continued to build, reaching its peak by the time the doors opened at 10:30 a.m.
Originally limited to the West Coast, In-N-Out has gradually expanded its presence across the United States. Beyond California and Idaho, it also has restaurants in Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Texas, Oregon and Colorado. In addition, In-N-Out has outlined plans to establish new outlets in New Mexico and Tennessee in the coming years.
Harry Snyder unveiled California’s inaugural drive-thru hamburger stand in 1948, occupying a compact space of just under 10 square feet in the city of Baldwin Park. The opening of the Meridian location holds special significance as it represents In-N-Out’s 400th establishment. It’s noteworthy that, in contrast to most major fast-food chains, In-N-Out maintains a unique model where all locations are company-owned rather than franchised.
The In-N-Out menu offers three burger options: hamburger, cheeseburger and the “Double-Double,” featuring two hamburger patties and two cheese slices. Each burger is complemented by a special sauce known as “spread,” a variant of Thousand Island dressing.
There are additional items that are part of the chain’s “secret menu.” These include the 3×3 and 4×4 (scaled versions of the “Double-Double”), Neapolitan shakes and the grilled cheese sandwich (which has two slices of melted cheese and everything that burgers come with minus the meat).
Protein Style burgers are wrapped with lettuce instead of buns and “Animal Style” burgers are cooked in a thin layer of mustard and served with additional condiments. Animal Style fries come smothered in melted cheese, chopped grilled onions and secret spread sauce.
We are excited to extend a warm welcome to In-N-Out Burger as it becomes part of our community. We eagerly anticipate the tasty offerings this iconic burger joint will bring to our city and can’t wait to relish every delicious bite!
