Boise residents ask and receive year-round dog park ‘Island’

As any animal lover will tell you, our pets are not just like family – they are family.

Boise, a region known for natural beauty and big-city amenities without the price tag, is building upon its reputation of being family-centric with the addition of a special dog park called Dog Island.

This off-leash park in the southwest area of Ann Morrison Park will debut later this year. The $440,000 project will feature sections for your furry family members of all sizes. In addition, it’ll include a pooch beach, water fountains and shelters.

This park is made possible by some generous donations from members of our incredible community, including a $50,000 donation from Together Treasure Valley and from the Harry W. Morrison Foundation.

Once completed, you and your dog can enjoy 5.5 acres of the dog park within the 153-acre park site. City leaders envision a safe and fun place that’s ideal for all canine activity and play. No detail has been ignored, including the city’s use of sand within the park, which will make clean-up a little easier on everyone.

In 2016, residents were surveyed about what they’d like to see at Ann Morrison Park. The second-most wanted feature was a year-round, off-leash park.

Dog Island, which has been in the works since 2016 is set to open this spring.

This is yet another example of our community growing — it’s a whole lot of fun to watch. No wonder it’s been named one of the hottest real estate markets in the nation and called one of the best-run cities in America.

If you want to be part of something special, why not make it Boise? It’s a great place to live. And it’s a great place for everyone in your family. Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information about opportunities to purchase a home in this special community we know as Boise!
