If the city of Boise were assigned a letter grade, it would earn an A+. That’s according to a recent study that ranked the best- and worst-run cities in America.
It’s no small feat. Running a city, managing its resources, providing for the citizens, educating children and the like is a monumental task and requires every type of resource.
The survey considers a number of methodological approaches, including expert surveys and the quantification of the following categories: financial stability, education, health, economy and infrastructure/pollution.
Thirty-five metrics with varying weights were used to determine a score based on the categories. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale – a 100 rating represents the highest quality of service.
Next, the overall “Quality of City Services” was calculated for each city based on its weighted average for all metrics. That figure was divided by the “Total Budget per Capita” to derive a “Score per Dollar Spent” index, which is the overall rank (for which Boise received No. 3).
